Bushcraft Taster Day
Join us for a fantastic bushcraft taster day course in the woods. During the day you will learn areas of bushcraft that include the four key elements of fire lighting, shelter, water and foraging. We run our courses in Bruton, Somerset.
Once you book on our bushcraft course we will confirm the exact location via email, we will also send you directions, provide you with a kit list and an emergency contact and medical form to be completed before the course.
On the day we will greet you and walk you to our base camp. We provide hot drinks on arrival and of course the essential health and safety brief before we do anything together. We then move on to the four key areas of the day the order may vary but we ensure each area is covered.
Fire Lighting
We teach various fire lighting techniques including the fire bow drill, which although isn’t everyone’s forte is good fun to learn and have a go at.
Shelters
Shelters are a key area of bushcraft. Before you camp down for the night, weekend or more, the first thing you need is a shelter. We offer a variety of options with shelters. We also teach some useful knots at this stage.
Water
We demonstrate various products and techniques for getting purified water. Another essential part of bushcraft, especially if you are planning on being a wilderness survivalist.
Foraging
The amount of flora, fauna and at times mushrooms we have available to us is often astounding. We teach essential identification skills that will ensure you notice the abundance of natures treats around you. We go in to more detail on our Foraging Courses but this part of our taster day will certainly open your eyes to the medicinal uses for some plants and leaves.
Lunch and Refreshments
We have had such super feedback about our lunches from our guests about our courses and hospitality. When you come on our bushcraft taster day you receive a friendly welcome to Somerset. We source our ingredients locally and cater for all needs (just let us know on your form when booking). We tend to cook in dutch ovens over the open fire so the food is well cooked and tasty. Our trusty kettle is always on for hot drinks and there’s plenty of biscuits and fruit to help you through the day.
At the end of the day, we walk you back to your transport. We can provide lifts to and fro our local train station/bus station by prior arrangement. Just drop us a line beforehand. If you want to stay over, there are great B and B’s in the area and super local attractions nearby including Stourhead Estate and Hauser and Wirth Somerset.
Please contact us for pricing and information if you would like us to travel to your site to run the course. We are happy to accommodate your needs. We have the skills, equipment and a great team to deliver your bushcraft needs. If you have a date in mind please let us know as we are flexible with our dates.
